Sussex is the home of many beautiful places. There are a number of castles, gardens, and natural beauties to visit while you are holidaying in this country.

One of the most visited places is Camber Sands Beach. This spot is a unique beach for Sussex beach.

When you are beach hopping in Sussex, you will find beaches covered in pebbles and shingles along its coast. However, there is an exception to Camber Sands.

This beach has fine golden sand.

The sand is part of the large sand dunes located in the village of Camber. This stunning beach stretches more than 3 miles along the east of Camber.

During the low tides, this beach is bigger, and you have more sand to make sandcastles.

The beach is divided into several zones. Zones located on the western end are covered only in fine sand. Meanwhile, zones located near the other end are covered in sand and shingle.

Camber Sands water temperature ranges from 42.6 – 62.2o F, with the hottest temperature in August.

Is Camber Sands Beach for dogs? Yes, visitors are allowed to bring their dogs to this beach from May to September.

However, dogs are only allowed in between Zones F and H. If you plan to bring your dog to this beach, don’t forget to keep him on a lead.

Where is it Located?

This unspoiled sandy beach is located in the village of Camber, East Sussex, TN31 7RT. On the west end of this beach, there is River Rother estuary.

Camber Sands is about a two-hour drive from London. You can follow Google Maps for directions.

If you don’t feel like driving, you can reach this beautiful beach by train, to get there.

You need to catch a Southeastern service from St Pancras International, London, to St Ashford International.

Then, at Ashford International, catch a Southern service to Rye. This whole journey takes about an hour.

The beach is about 3 miles from Rye. Once you arrive at Rye, you can walk to the beach or ride a taxi or bus.

Walking from Rye to Camber Sands may take about an hour. Meanwhile, it only takes 6 minutes by taxi and about 13 minutes by bus.

Things to Do in Camber Sands

You can do many things in Camber Sands Beach, even holding a wedding party. These are activities to do on this beach.

1. Beachcombing

Camber Sands is one of the best spots for beach combing in England. Therefore, you must bring a stick with you when holidaying on this beach.

If you are lucky, you can find lost coins, semi-precious stones, and shark egg casing along the tide line.

2. Kitesurfing

If beachcombing is too boring for you, you can try an adrenaline-pumping activity, kitesurfing.

To enjoy this activity, you need to rent the gear and get a kitesurfing tutorial at the water sports rental service that is located near the holiday cottages.

3. Donkey Rides

Strolling along the beach can make you feel more relaxed.

However, if you feel a bit tired, you can skip this activity and choose to explore the beach by riding a donkey. Donkey rides are available only in summer for kids and adults. 

4. Windsurfing

Another adrenaline-pumping activity to try on this stunning beach is windsurfing. Trying this water sport can make your holiday more memorable.

Before heading to the sea, you can get the gear and windsurfing lesson from the water sports rental service located on this beach.

5. Watch the Sunset or Sunrise

Camber Sands is a great place to watch the beauty of sunset and sunrise. Don’t forget to capture these beautiful moments on your camera.

However, it is important to remember that the Camber Sands parking facilities open at 8.30 am and closes at 8 pm.

Therefore, if you go to this beach by car, you need to make sure that you get the time right.

If you are afraid of losing this beautiful moment, you can park your car at another place and then walk to the beach to watch the sunset or sunrise.

6. Seal Spotting

Many people have spotted seals on this beach.

If you are interested in seeing seals in their natural habitat, you need to bring your binocular and camera while holidaying in Camber Sands.

The animals are usually spotted near the estuary of the Rother River.

However, the seals are not in this spot every day of the year. The best time to watch the seals is in late summer to autumn.

7. Swimming

It is safe to swim on this beach. However, you are only allowed to swim within the marked area.

Moreover, you need to be aware of fast incoming tides. Pay attention to the signs or flags before you play in the water. Red flags mean no swimming.

Facilities

Camber Sands has various facilities to meet your needs. They are car parks, cafes, and toilets. Moreover, there is a lifeguard service on this beach.

If you want to stay for a couple of days on this beach, you can book a Camber Sands hotel near the beach.

To get the best view of the beach from the room, you must choose the best accommodation in the area. Some recommended places to stay are Gallivant and Pontins.

Once you have explored this unspoiled beach, you can visit other interesting places nearby. Some of them are:

1. Rye Harbour Nature Reserve

This conservation site is very close to the beach. It is on the other side of the Rother River.

Rye Harbour Nature Reserve is a perfect place for bird watching. In addition, it has some interesting wildlife and landscapes to see.

2. Bodiam Castle

One of the castles to visit in East Sussex is the Bodiam Castle. This impressive castle is surrounded by a moat so that visitors need to cross the bridge to access it.

3. Exploring the Town of Rye

Rye is a small charming town. You can do many things in this town, such as shopping for souvenirs and dining in a restaurant.
